WORD of THE PRESIDENT MISTER OSCAR MANUTAHI TEMARU 18th EDITION of HAWAIKI NUI VA’A
For this 18th edition of Hawaiki Nui Va’a which will take place on November 4th, 5th and 6th in the islands of Leeward Islands, the Country was keen on giving all the necessary means in the good progress of this popular event strongly awaited by an always more numerous audience.
I thus gave the responsibility to the Minister of Youth, Sports and the Community Life, Tauhiti NENA for making sure the event would be fine by putting into contribution his supervisory bodies such as the IJSPF and the Youth and Sports Service to make these three days a festive event worthy of the name.
The va’a is a strong sign of our attachment in our cultural values. Thanks to the work of the Tahitian Federation of va’a which has been working for the recognition and the development of this so precious sport to our traditions, for years the va’a has become one of the main sports of our Fenua.
Due to its popularity, Hawaiki Nui Va’a is such an event that it is registered on the annual sports calendar. This race participates not only in the development of the physical practice but also in the promotion of our islands.
Hawaiki Nui Va’a is also the contribution of men and women, without whom this race could never see the day, people who give the best of themselves to make this race a notorious event.
Let you all be congratulated!
Rowers men and women on your paddles henceforth: A hoe!Let the show start once again!
Oscar Manutahi TEMARU
President of the French Polynesia.
